Homeward Bound Monday, July 15, 2013

Monday morning, after a wonderful breakfast with Pastor
Sergei and his family, we headed to the Minsk airport.
We had quite a long day ahead with travel from Minsk, Belarus
to Frankfurt, Germany then from Frankfurt to Washington
DC Dulles, and lastly on to Atlanta Hartsfield/Jackson airport.
Our final flight landed in Atlanta at 11:40pm. Atlanta traasportation
picked us up around 12:10 am Tuesday and we made it
back to First Baptist Atlanta around 12:45am.

What a super team we had! Everyone gave of themselves many
times over. We worked very well as a group and we all learned
to value each other. We kept going and going even when tired. The
Lord sustained us just as He promised!
Thanks to all of you who made up the team:

Last Night Sunday, July 14, 2013

After touring Minsk, we went to the home of Pastor Sergei and
his wife Tonya. They live in a suburb area about 20-25 minutes
from the city. On the way to the house, Sergei took us past
the estate of the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.
Belarus has been called, "the last remaining dictatorship in the
heart of Europe." Lukashenko governs in this manner. As we
drove past the estate we really couldn't see anything. There were
high fences and a lot of razor wire. I joked with Sergei that he
had arranged for our dinner that evening to be with the President
as we were surely very important guests in the country! But I
was impressed that he lived near the President. How many of us
can say that!

Pastor Sergei took us to see his church. Then we went to his
home to eat a wonderful meal of barbeque chicken with
their family. The amazing thing about them is that not only is
he a Pastor, but he and his wife have 18 children. Most of
the children are adopted as orphans. They live in a house
that he built. Amazingly and generously they let all 11 of us
spend the night with them. We were so blessed! (The reason
they had room for us was that most of their children were off
at camp.) We sang, "Thank you God for our food," before each
meal as they do with their children.

On To Minsk Sunday Afternoon July 14, 2013

After 2 great Vacation Bible Schools our work was almost
done. On Sunday afternoon we packed up all of our bags and
headed to Minsk, the capital of Belarus, for a little sightseeing.
The 3 1/2 hour drive gave everyone some much needed time to
reflect and sit back and rest. The countryside of Belarus is beautiful!
When we arrived in Minsk we 1st went to an underground
mall so we could do a little shopping. I found that the shopping
was limited just a few kiosks so I only bought some postcards
this trip. After shopping we took off on the streets and saw
a few sights around town.

Food & Around and About Mikasevichi

Everyday at this church we ate in the basement as a team.
The sweet ladies of the church prepared wonderful meals
for us. It was a special time of fellowship for our team.
One of the days Andrew led our team in singing the
Doxology. As we sang, "Praise God from whom all blessings
flow"... the ladies came out of the kitchen. Without hesitation
they began singing with us the Russian version of the song.

As we walked back and forth to our different host homes we
were able to take a few pictures around the town.

Sunday Church

On Sunday morning we were able to participate in the
worship service at the church. We again served though
song and personal testimonies.  We enjoyed hearing the
choir and music of the church. Andrew preached a
compelling sermon. We rejoiced when a dear lady came
to church after home vistation the previous evening. We
prayed with her. What a wonderful morning!

VBS Worship

Each day we led the children in a group assembly worship
time. We had so much fun during this time. On Saturday
afternoon Pastor Andrew again spoke with the older children
about faith in Jesus Christ. That evening we finished the camp
with another worship service. The families and other people
of the town came to hear about VBS and to see the children.
Pastor Andrew again gave a clear presentation of the gospel.
